WB 2-5🫐: Holy fujujus

 WB 2-5🫐: Holy fujujus

Summary

Hi hi hi, new blog this week. This week was slightly eventful, but not quite. We didn't have school on Tuesday, so this week was only four days long. Anyways, On Monday, we started our math test and holy moly. . . Only one person got an A on their test, and that score was only 89% AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Luckily, I still have an A for this quarter but oh my God was Ms. Chen disappointed in my class and I felt so bad. It was on the easiest subject too, which was integers. . . In art class, we designed three monsters based on symbols and we are going to sculpt them as clay bobble heads. Mine is a demon in sheep's clothing (heh, get it?), which was the one who got picked the most. Pretty sad that one of my other monsters got vandalized, which is dumb because it was my second favorite design. Leadership is great, and the GT's are getting more comfortable around here now they start to get into the pace the current class is already in. I love all the GT's in period 3 and they're just bebeh's (joking). In science, it's a fever dream because everyone in that class is just mentally insane goblins (except for Kaleah and Cole) who can't stop talking-- but, Mrs. Arakawa did give us candy, so that made it a bit better. ELA is fine, since we are just writing an essay about if humans should continue to go to space and I love writing essays. I don't get how some people think making essays is hard when all you need to do is get really good notes and evidence, grab the readers attention, and write in a simple format. Social Studies is going well, since my group decided to change from making a performance to doing an exhibit board. Although Mr. Cole talks half of the class (which makes the class lose a bit of work time), he is very engaging and animated, lol. Me and my group are very locked in which is fantastic, and we are working on planning how the exhibit is gonna look like. I am currently working on taking pictures for the Peep Div section I am doing for Yearbook, but I want to get two others who are working the same section to take pictures since they never did it yet. We were also taught how to edit pictures, so that's great. In drama, I am thinking about auditioning for the role of Lydia Deetz for Beetlejuice, and for auditions we have to reat a part of the script and sing a song. Kinda nervous, but it's whatever. Also, recognition night happened this week (sadly I don't have any photos from it) and I almost lost my voice after cheering for my friends. Good job to everyone for making it through the first quarter!!

Highlights + Lowlights

Highlights

My Winning Art Design - I'm thrilled that my main design for the art bobblehead project—a 'demon in sheep's clothing'—was the one that got picked the most! I'm really looking forward to sculpting that one into a clay bobblehead.

The Joy of ELA and Essay Writing - I absolutely loved ELA this week! We're writing an essay on whether humans should continue space exploration, and I genuinely enjoy writing essays. It feels so easy when you have good notes and a simple structure. It's great to work on something I naturally find fun and straightforward.

Social Studies Group Lock-in - My Social Studies group has been fantastic this week! We made a great pivot by deciding to change our project from a performance to an exhibit board. We are all super 'locked in' and working hard on the planning, which makes the work productive and fun, despite Mr. Cole's engaging, yet lengthy, lectures.

Lowlights

The Math Test Disaster - I was so bummed that the math test scores were absolutely abysmal, only one person managed an A, and it was only 89%. Even though I still have an A for the quarter, the disappointment on Ms. Chen's face was crushing, especially since the test was on a subject as easy as integers. It made me feel terrible for the whole class.

Art Class Vandalism - I was genuinely upset when one of my favorite monster designs for the clay bobblehead project got vandalized. It’s so dumb that someone would ruin someone else's work, and it took the fun out of designing my second favorite idea.

The Science Class Chaos - Science class is a total fever dream. It's so hard to focus because everyone in there (except Kaleah and Cole) is just a group of mentally insane goblins who won't stop talking. It feels like a constant struggle just to keep my head down and pay attention, even if Mrs. Arakawa does try to bribe us with candy.

Lessons Learned

School Schedule & Math

Lesson: A shorter week due to a day off is nice, but it doesn't lighten the weight of the work. I learned that even in the 'easiest' subjects like integers, I can't take success for granted. The math test disaster showed me how much class morale can suffer when a teacher is disappointed, and it reaffirmed the importance of trying to support my classmates and focus on my own effort, regardless of the overall results.

Art Class

Lesson: I learned a few things in art this week. First, I realized how much I love the creative process, especially when a concept I'm proud of—like my 'demon in sheep's clothing'—gets positive recognition. But sadly, I also learned that not everyone respects other people's work, and the vandalism of my design was a reminder to appreciate and protect my creations when I can.

Leadership (GTs)

Lesson: Seeing the GTs in Leadership start to finally settle into the class pace reminded me of the value of patience and consistent guidance. I learned that new people, even if they seem like 'bebeh's,' just need time and a welcoming environment to get comfortable and start thriving in a new routine.

Science Class

Lesson: Science class taught me that I need to develop an even stronger ability to tune out distractions. When a class is as chaotic and loud as a 'fever dream' with 'mentally insane goblins,' I learned that my best strategy is to focus on the small wins—like the candy from Mrs. Arakawa—and rely on my own mental discipline to stay on track.

ELA

Lesson: My experience writing the space essay confirmed a valuable lesson: high-quality writing, even something as complex as an essay, doesn't have to be hard. I learned that if I focus on the key elements—thorough notes/evidence, a good hook, and sticking to a simple, clear format—I can tackle any writing assignment with confidence.

Social Studies

Lesson: I learned the importance of strategic flexibility in group projects. Switching our project from a performance to an exhibit board was a great move that helped us 'lock in.' I also learned that even when a class is slowed down by a very engaging teacher like Mr. Cole, I can use that time to deepen the planning and communication within my group.

Yearbook (Peep Div)

Lesson: Working on the Peep Div section for Yearbook taught me a great lesson about delegating and accountability. I'm taking the initiative to get the pictures, but I also realized I need to clearly communicate and hold my two section partners accountable to get their share of the work done, as they need to learn the process too. Plus, I learned a new technical skill: how to edit pictures, which is fantastic.

Drama & Auditions

Lesson: Thinking about auditioning for Lydia Deetz in Beetlejuice taught me that facing nervousness is just part of pursuing a goal. I realized that the fear is 'whatever' compared to the excitement of trying. I need to focus on preparing the script part and song, and just commit to the experience.

Recognition Night

Lesson: Cheering until I almost lost my voice at Recognition Night reminded me how much I value my friends and celebrating their achievements. It showed me the power of enthusiasm and the simple joy of supporting the people I care about.

Magic Note

I chose this specific magic note to put in this blog because it helps me continue being myself. I am naturally a people pleaser, and I try to break that pattern to stop letting people walk over me-- and seeing this note helps me a lot. She makes a really great point about how people lie just for the sake of others, but I don't, which hurts to hear but is better than a toxic lie. Seeing this from my eighth grader makes me smile, and makes me more confident as a person to express who I truly am. Not to please others, but just to please myself.
