WB 1-1&2π : OH GOODNESS GRAVY
These couple of weeks has been interesting and fantastic. At Bridge, we got to know each other by socializing with one another as we did different activities like asking five questions about each other, making poems about one another, and overall talking to each other and getting to know each person’s personality. At this time, we did not have workdays yet, so June was all about meeting different people and making new friends.
Workdays
When the months July-August hit, those were the times where we started workdays. For workdays, we cleaned A101, I104, and the cages a ton alongside schedule pickup. These were the days where I would be the most exhausted after, but in the end, it was worth it The rooms we cleaned were all dusty and crowded, so we worked together to clean the rooms as much as possible and in the end, we did a good job cleaning almost all of it out. For schedule pickup, we had different jobs assigned to each of us— some having partners they can work with, and a few who had to work alone. I was the ID Runner, which meant that I had to hand over the ID’s to the people who made planners after the ID’s printed. After all throws days, we went to the beach. We had fun swimming and playing in the water, and got to watch fireworks after. This day, in my opinion, was like a reward for the hard work we did in workdays, and I am proud we all made it this far.
First Weeks of School
For the first weeks of school, everything was about getting to know each teacher, what they expected, and what they taught. So far, every teacher and class that I have been in these couple of weeks were all positive. Although at times the class was disruptive and being rowdy, the atmosphere was great and all seemed natural as if me and my other classmates were always a class. When the periods we had to go to were 1, 3, 5 on the first day and 2, 4, 6 the next, I hadn’t expected such a calm feeling despite it being the first day of school. My pre-algebra teacher, Ms. Chen who was the teacher in my first period, made a big impression on me after sitting in her class. All we did so far was learn how to make on-going decimals into fractions. She seemed kind, and genuinely wanted us to get through the year with passing colors. My third period was Mr. Ing, who is also my advisory teacher. I’ve been with him alongside other students in leadership, and nothing bad has happened yet. It is going all well, and we worked on diagnostic tests, and observing ID, music, and Tv. Overall, I had fun at period three. Period five was my General Arts teacher, Ms. Coury. So far, she had been my most favorite teacher. She has an outgoing personality, and supports the creative minds of her students. She gives us all art journals, and we got to design the covers. We cut out certain things, glued them in our journals, and did different activities like drawing birds, learning about different types of lines, and making art. My period 2, 4, and 6 teachers were Ms. Miya, Ms. Arakawa, and Mr. Cole. They were all very fun teachers, and they are good at keeping the class engaged in what they are teaching and saying. Ms. Miya taught English Language Arts, Ms. Arakawa taught Science, and Mr. Cole taught Social Studies. I enjoyed every class I have, and I am excited for the school year. In the first week of school, A101 was Cafe monitors, and I got to do the two different jobs; plating food, and trash duty. I also have made new friends already, so these couple of weeks of school have been awesome, and I hope to have more fun later on in the school year.
Highlights + Lowlights
Highlights
- Getting to know all the teachers — One of my highlights was meeting all my new teachers. At first, I was nervous of having six different teachers, and six different personalities to be with for the rest of the school year. But as I met all of them, I started to enjoy each and every one of them.
- Getting/Meeting new friends — Another highlight I have is meeting/getting new friends. I am and never was a social person, but after coming to 7th grade, I have started getting out of my comfort zone and finally let my confidence grow. In the end, I had already made a couple of new friends and I am very proud of myself for doing so.
- Electing as president — Not too long ago, I tried out for a president role alongside with another classmate. We all tried our hardest on making posters, and getting people to vote either me or her. In the end, I did not get the role but that doesn’t matter— I am proud of myself nonetheless because I at least tried out, and that says a lot about me. I am not jealous of the other classmate who won, and instead congratulated her for getting such a big opportunity to shine.
Lowlights
- One specific math problem — After one of the days where our periods were 5, 1, and 3, I had received my first piece of math homework. The lesson itself was fairly simple and easy, but there was one math problem I got stuck on which ended up being easy. I was just overthinking. It made me stressed and I was really relieved when I finally figured it out.
- Forgetting my student ID at home — It was the second week of school and one day, I had completely forgotten about my ID which was on my desk at home, and I left without getting it. I did not realize until I got to my first period, and I was embarrassed when I had to go back to the office and get a green band. I was absolutely devastated because I thought I was foolish for forgetting such an important item, and I will never forget it again.
- Cleaning the dumpster cart — When A101 had Cafe monitors, I was one of the people who worked at trash. I was relieved when we finally got to clean up, but the dumpster cart ended up being messy, having a puddle of milk at the bottom. Me and two others had to scrub the cart, and I dreaded every second of it.
