Summer Blog🌹

This summer was very fun and interesting. I got to meet new people, and together we did all sorts of things throughout the days like; meeting Alumni, Schedule Pickup, and workdays. Before Workdays, we did activities with each other to know each other’s personalities, and how we are. Some of the activities we did were to ask each person five questions, Psychiatrist, and Get the Cone. In between these activities, we worked on things like making our bio cube, making our buckets, and writing things down in our journals. Workdays were all about tidying up A102, and A104. The rooms were dusty, crowded, and overall needed to be cleaned out. Everyone worked together to tidy up the rooms and make them as spacious and clean as we could for the new school year and we did great. The heaviest things were in A104, so sometimes two people would carry one thing. Throughout the Schedule Pickup days, we sometimes would switch jobs depending on which ones we haven’t done yet. For example, I had to give out schedules for my first job working and the next day, I got to do Check-In. Check-in was easy since you either get to put name stickers on stamp cards, or ask if the person has all the forms and check if they have any missing ones before letting them pay and take their ID picture. The job that I liked the most was to give out schedules because all I needed to do was know their child’s entering grade, first letter of their last name, and look for their schedule paper to give them it. We met Alumni a few weeks before our Summer Field Trip, and we did a lot of fun activities together. We did a relay race which really brought out people’s personalities, which made the vibe a whole lot better.

In the summer, there were lots of highlights and lowlights throughout the summer link days.

Highlights - Core Memories

  1. Meeting Alumni - One of the highlights of my summer was meeting Alumni. I enjoyed meeting the Alumni because they all had great personalities, and were all easy to talk to. The activities we did together— the relay race —was challenging and also fun at the same time. The challenges we had in the relay race were; cup flip, wheelbarrow, paper airplane, and more. Overall, doing the challenges with the Alumni and getting to know them as a person was special and challenging.
  2. Schedule Pickup - The second highlight of my summer were Schedule Pickup days. I liked having different jobs to do, even if I only switched through two different ones. The job that I liked the most was giving out schedules because I liked staying inside the A101 room, and all I needed to do was to look at the first letter of the child’s last name, needed to know their entering grade, and look for their schedule.
  3. The First Workday, July 7th - The third highlight of my summer was the first workday we had in Leadership. We put new fabric’s on the boards by stapling them on, and the partner I did one with was helpful and doing it with me. Although some mistakes were made and we had to redo it a couple of times, the activity was still fun to do, especially with a partner.

Lowlights - Lowest Times

  1. The rest of the Workdays - Throughout the workdays, we had to do lots and lots of cleaning and moving things out. The things were dusty, heavy, and crowded, so it required a lot of work and effort to get things done and cleaned as much as we could. These days would get me exhausted the most, so I would be too tired to do anything else besides nap when I got home.
  2. Getting sick and missing a Schedule Pickup day - I really wanted to go to one of the Schedule Pickup day’s, but I unfortunately didn’t feel well and ended up not going. I was really bummed about that, but I guess it was for the better since I probably would’ve risked getting others sick too if I came anyway.
  3. Getting fingers stuck under ladder - The last Lowlight I had was when we worked together to carry a ladder to the cafeteria and on the stage. Only one side of the ladder was fully on the stage before everyone let go instead of me, resulting in my fingers getting stuck underneath. It hurt really bad, but the luckily helped me get my fingers unstuck.

The lessons I learned this summer were to always help out when needed, always listen to what things are said, and to not stand around and do nothing. Even when people don’t ask for help, I learned to help them anyway because it is better to let others know you’re there if they need help rather than to just let them be confused and not get done whatever they need to get done. In order not to stand around, I learned to ask others if they need help with whatever they’re doing, or ask another person what I should do. This helps not to just standby, and instead engage yourself with the activities others are doing. Lastly, always listen to what things are said because most of the time, things that are said are important and crucial for what to do in Leadership.
